Textile Exchange publishes a new polyester LCA study
The study adds data on virgin PET in Southeast Asia and recycled polyester production in China, Europe and the United States, identifying feedstocks, energy, collection and transport as key impact hotspots.
The report estimates global fiber production at about 132 million tonnes in 2024. Polyester represented about 59% of output, with roughly 88% still fossil-based, while some certified and controlled-source material shares improved.
